A few weeks ago, I introduced to you artist Chris Jordan, who explores Western culture through large scale images exploring mass consumption and waste, as well as other social issues and topics. Watch the video presentation of Chris Jordan discussing his artwork and then write an aesthetic response to his work. How do you react to his images? Does his artwork have a profound effect on you? Explain your experience/ reactions. As an artist, does he motivate you to explore any of these issues in your own personal work?http://www.ted.com/talks/chris_jordan_pictures_some_shocking_stats.html

Although his images are digitally manipulated, I feel he's trying to express the side of the Western culture that most people usually don't think of. We don't have a tendency to think of airplane cups not being recycled or even the people in prisons. But I feel he's trying to explain one big picture- and it's that we don't care to think about these certain things and aren't try to make a change. Changes need to be made, especially in the American culture. His images are unsettling when I think about the numbers and makes me almost disgusted. His art further pushes me to explore what I want to display to people. In my art, I want to depict the misunderstood and unseen truths that lie in our world and in the people. I want to try and make a change for the better, whether it'll actually make an impact or not.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching Chris Jordan's video, I was in disbelieve. It is incredible how much is used and wasted in the world. The numbers in he stated proved this. Mr. Jordan's artwork awakens me to this. Unfortunately, people don't realize how much is being wasted. On my flight to and from chicago, I am proud to share that I did not use a cup when served a bottle of water. I like this guy.
ReplyDeletemass consumption and waste are always there, but people never realize how bad the fact and the consequence are. This is a straight way for people to understand the data.
ReplyDeleteNot until I saw his works did I realize that I can make art to express my opinions about not only my internal world, but my external world as well. I can 'talk' about many things happening around me that I concern. I can express my thoughts about politics, environment issues, racism, etc. The way he did his artworks are unique - simple but impressive. He impresses the viewers by showing the repetition of the objects many, many times. I was really impressed.
ReplyDeletein the class we saw video clip about his art and before
ReplyDeletei never thought problem than existing in nowadays, not serious for
for me because like we say in the class art from him's audience
is someone educated and when i talked about this problem with my friends for plastic cups picture (airplane) they don't recycle it
because people need jobs for that so that is why people don't recycle property so my point is his art is definitely easy to clarify and pretty scare
In my opinion, his work just amazing, and it makes me realized how powerful the visual way are. Also his work inspire me really want to do some work about the social issues deadly. Before i saw his works, I uses to think about something about international issues and want to have some voice in that era. But after I saw his work, I feel the most work people should basiclly know are somethings around us as the social problem. His work make me want to change my concentration topic.
