Jenny Holzer in her own words.wmv

For thirty years, Jenny Holzer has presented her astringent ideas, arguments, and sorrows in public places and international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, the Reichstag, and the Guggenheim Museums in New York and Bilbao. Her medium, whether formulated as a T-shirt, as a plaque, or as an LED sign, is writing, and the public dimension is integral to the delivery of her work. Starting in the 1970s with the New York City posters, and up to her recent light projections on landscape and architecture, her practice has rivaled ignorance and violence with humor, kindness, and moral courage. Holzer received the Leone d’Oro at the Venice Biennale in 1990 and the Public Art Network Award in 2004. She holds honorary degrees from Ohio University, Williams College, the Rhode Island School of Design, and The New School. Holzer lives and works in New York.

  1. Art is an artist's medium to express his thoughts and motions. In drawing or painting, the artist uses color, shape and lines to guide reviews to the meanings he put inside that drawing or painting. However, Jenny Holzer expresses her emotions through texts. Letters and words are objects that can clearly and easily transfer the ideas of the artist to the viewers. Through Jenny's works, I realize that texts could also be artworks.

  2. Literature is a style of art, and although Jenny Holzer uses text, I do not feel it's that style (but it is art).
As an art student, I find that it is my goal to try to express my emotions and the message I'm trying to spread through my lines and colours on my canvas. Using text, I find it's straightforward and brave. Most people may look at a picture and find their own interpretations in it. However, text is text; it's raw and says the meaning in it. It makes me think about the saying, "A picture says a thousand words", but what about text? Maybe it only has one.
I find text simple in it's format, but the emotion behind it is something unique and inspiring. It makes you drawn to read it and know what the artist means.

  3. When the huge words appear in the light, they are spectacular. Text is a frank expression of art. it stand in silence, but affect people the most.

i realize word could mean to us differently as using with different places and environment and (my favorite one was tree that she use light to show her word in tree) anyways and i think use word making art could last long to remember her art work !
