In the Introduction of Art and Fear, Bayles and Orland say, "...But while geniuses may get made once-a-century or so, good art gets made all the time. Making art is a common and intimately human activity, filled with all the perils (and rewards) that accompany any worthwhile effort. The difficulties artmakers face are not remote and heroic, but universal and familiar."
In your own words, what are Bayles and Orland saying? What are some difficulties that you have when making art that you consider being universal and familiar (personal fears)?

I feel that they are saying that even though there may be that occasional artist that is like Da Vinci or someone, everyday art is being made by normal hands. This art is good, whether they receive recognition or not. Our art can be acknowledged or even criticized, but our challenge is to accept it, and come to terms with our own personal fears.
ReplyDeleteOne of my own difficulties is making the first mark on a canvas. It's this feeling of uncertainty and fear towards pushing myself to make just a single mark. It happens all the time, too. One other difficulty is adding extra colours to the picture. I feel if I sometimes let my imagination go, the canvas may not turn out how I hoped. However, sometimes it's a 'happy mistake' and it turns out to be a good thing.
In my words, art is the most common stuff we can see during a day. Almost everything can define as a form of art It is not something that require a perfect skills,or a endless of time.Art could be reached by everybody. As soon as you hold a pen,and making several stroke even on a sheet of paper, art starts.Even if nobody support you or they criticize your works, however, you can still make it because for me to say, art is not something that I make to comfort others, but it's my a reflect of my interval struggles. If there are people recognize you job, excellent,if not, don't push yourself into a extreme situation.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the process of making art is struggled. I have to give up bunch of ideals I would like to hold, or when I failed in painting before ,so I panic. the uncertainty is in every step. My problem is the results always go too far from my concepts.I m not brave enough to do what I want to do sometime, but just keeping in the same routine, even if I m out of ideas.I m lack of challenging myself sometimes.

The introduction of Art and Fear by David Bayles and Ted Orland explains how good art gets made all the time. Bayles and Orland are saying that one does not have to be a genius, in order to create good art. Good art can be created all the time. I completely agree with their statement. If an ordinary person puts their heart and soul into a piece of art, it can turn out as well as one made by a “genius”. There are no limits in creating art, when one puts forth all their worthwhile effort.
ReplyDeletePeople make good art pieces all the time, but not every one recognizes that. They don't consider themselves as artists and assume that making art is only for geniuses like Van Gogh or Picasso. That's a serious misconception. Making art is not for any special group of people, but for every human-beings. Also, the difficulties that the masters face are not incredible, but just so common that we - the artmakers - face every time we make a brushstroke or expose a picture frame.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I fear the most is that what I'm doing is not the best (of my ability). I often spend a lot of time on editing my ideas before I actually do it. Sometimes the best ideas came to me just in a twinkle; but sometimes they seem to take me forever and then I have to give it up or accept the idea that I'm having.
